At a glance: the still very peaceful valley Langtauferer Tal leads from Graun/Curon in the Upper Vinschgau Valley up to the foot of the Weisskugel (3738 m). Actually, the Langtauferer Höhenweg leads from Graun/Curon to Melag/Melago For this four-hour tour we recommend the second and more interesting part as a circular tour: starting from Gschwell up the south-facing slopes to the lakes Schwemmseen and then along the wonderful high mountain trail until Melag/Melago.
Best time: summer/autumn, in August it's rather hot
Joys: the panoramic views to the broadside of the Weisskugel range with its glistening glaciers
Efforts: 800 m of ascent, about 2.5 hours, total walking time 5.5 hours, a bit strenuous but very rewarding
Starting point: Gschwell, 1816 m, small hamlet, reachable by car and bus from Graun/Curon
Route: on path no. 8 first through larch forests and then up over treeless slopes to the
1 lakes Schwemmseen, then along the high mountain trail marked with no. 4, gently up and down into the valley of Melag/Melago. Then along path n. 1 down the valley Melag/Melago, keeping to the right side of the valley, via the hamlet of Melag until 2 Kappl. Return to Gschwell along the road.
